So...

Hi. Note that i'm writing this less then 2 weeks since my last post. Aren't i improving! (sarcasm hand raised).

Yeah. Where was I??

Oh right. So SN has had a rash of "day in the life of" posts recently... none of which *quite* represent me. I mean, my stereotype (australian high school student) has been, but it's not what my life really is like. With this realisation (and the realisation that no "day in the life of" post i write will actually get published on SN), I've decided to write one for you guys. Aren't you lucky?? And without further ado, i present...

A Day In The Life Of... Oreos!

And by oreos i mean me, not the edible biscuit that is oh-so-yummy....

6:01 AM - my alarm goes off. Why 01, you ask? Because it allows me to truthfully tell myself i will actually get up after 6:00 today. I get out of bed (or pull out my iPod) and open up sparknotes and my emails. Sadly as I live in Australia, most of my sparknotes friends are online when I could be sleeping... getting up early is the only way we can live chat.

7:05 - start getting ready for school... straighten hair (or stick it in a bun if i'm running late), eat breakfast, drink coffee (decaf, bleugh), pack my bag... the list is never ending.

7:40 - yell at my youngest brother to get his butt out the door, and leave. Thankfully i have my license now, so I can drive us all to school.

7:55 - arrive at school, go to tuckshop, buy coffee... and this one's caffeinated! Hang out with friends (and my coffee) for about half an hour, catching up on the goss i missed yesterday and get reprimanded at least 10 times for my caffeine/sugar dependency.

8:30 - form room. We get the notices, have a devotion, and one lucky member of the class gets asked questions by our form teacher. Generally i doodle in my diary, talk to my friends, or debate the latest Doctor Who episode with some of the guys in class.

8:45 - period 1. I'm going by a Thursday timetable, so it's ... um ... OK, so after 18 months i still haven't learnt my timetable. Thankfully my friends are aware of this, and someone tells me that we all have maths first... I actually take two maths subjects, and this is the easier one, so i sit and chat with my friends/listen to my iPod during this lesson.

10:00 - Life Skills. In which each class wastes as much of the 30 minute session as they can ignoring the teacher.

10:30 - MORNING TEA! Unfortunately we're not allowed on the only patch of grass in our school during morning tea, but we are allowed on the fake grass! Chocolate of some variety is generally consumed, and gossip from first period shared.

11:00 - Period 2. Today this is my second maths subject, maths C. It's actually quite hard, but the teacher for this class is awesome and there's only 8 in the class, so we generally end up having class discussions on such things as the ability of a ring box to fit into an oreo packet, or the financial situation of Greece.

12:00 - Period 3. Which is the entire other end of the school... which currently has construction through the main path. Yippee! After 10 minutes of travel, I arrive at chemistry having looked at the prac on the way. Generally, it's boring, but without fail one of the guys in class will have the matches confiscated... which is mildly entertaining.

1:10 - LUNCH TIME!! Rush downstairs to the grade's "common area", which is simply a kettle and microwave... the key thing here being kettle, from which water is procured for my coffee (or caramalatte, as the case so often is). After this, we go to the fake grass, the real grass, the form class area (the hallway which our form classes come off), or to a study session. Gossip is swapped, homework is attempted, and (almost) an entire hour of school time is spent being told to use my inside voice...

2:00 - Period 4. The final period of the day, English. I love the class (as in teacher and student group), but hate the subject... While i love to read (with a passion), I hate having to interpret texts. English is all about interpretting. Nuff said. I sit and generally end up writing out song lyrics for 75 minutes.

3:15 - FREEDOM!!! Or at least, I go down to the oval until I can drag my brothers away from their social lives. And you always though girls were the ones who liked to talk???

4:something - get home. Go on sparknotes, email, etc... basically waste time till mum gets home.

4:something-later - Mum gets home, the kettle goes on, and i offload my day onto her over cups of coffee (this time decaf... again...). After this i stuff around with school work/play piano/waste time on the net/read till dinner, after which i do homework/assignments/emails/sparknotes/watch tv... you get the picture.

Wrap up: My day is 25% coffee, 25% gossip-sessions, 25% revising what I didn't do in class, 25% wasting time and 100% talking.

Randomness :)

So i'm back again (aren't I good??) and I promise to regularly blog again... really...

Anyways, i've finally finished exams and my senior year is officially 1/2 over!!! Which is sad and happy, but extremely exciting.

In other news, i've begun formal dress shopping, so fingers crossed i'll have one by the weekend and post you guys a pic :)

Back to the blogging thing

So, I was playing around on youtube (as you do) and started getting all nostalgic about some ads that used to be on down here... These ads have become legendary down under, with their phrases quoted daily.

During the time of Emperor Nasi Goreng... Too many rabbits in China. This ad is from the then government owned telephone company in Australia. One of the most quoted ads in Australia...

Charter boat, what charter boat? Only shown in Queensland, one of a series of ads from RACQ, our state's main insurance company. And sorry about the quality, it's the only version on youtube.

Not happy, Jan! Useful when annoyed at anyone or anything (and used far too much as newspaper headlines), it's an ad for the Australian version of the yellow pages.

And only 2% fat. Not the part of the ad we were actually supposed to remember, but the line that's stuck anyway. Pauls is the main milk company over here.

Goodness Graciousness!

Howdy all :)

it's been a month (almost... ok, so 3 weeks, but still) and i have yet to write something interesting here. I'm becoming a Bad Blogger. Now this probably has more to do with my stupid assignments then anything else (5 left and counting), and the exams i also have to endure (only 5 left, again) and the whole "I'm a senior i have no life" epidemic spreading through my grade, but still. I miss you guys.

And sadly i have no time to write anything truly interesting or exciting, that has absolutely nothing to do with school...

... but i can write something slightly interesting on a school related topic!

We're studying Pride and Prejudice at the moment (one of my all-time favourite novels/movies/mini-series... yes, i like the keira knightly *sorry about the spelling* movie AS WELL AS the book and mini-series. I see it as a stand alone version of the story... interesting, if not totally true to life) and the assignment is to write an article of a subject of the book. I'm doing the perfect man (aka mr Darcey) and what's more, school has APPROVED THIS! so i have 1000 words with which to gush about mr Darcey, complain about mr Wickham (and the waste of his attractiveness) and compare the two with Benjamin Barry (from How to lose a guy in 10 days). Suffice to say i think it will be the most enjoyable english assignment of my senior year.

And hence, i give you my list of perfect men (and some justifications):

The Doctor (most incarnations... except 7 and 8. They were just weird)
David Tennant (he's SCOTTISH!)
Hugh Jackman (hot)
Wolvereine (hot)
Mr Darcey (hello??? ALL PERFECT MEN ARE BASED ON HIM! and he's hot)
Colonel Fitzwilliam (darcy, but without the pride... and sadly the money)
Ryan Palmer (he's from the coffee series... well, ok the Lauren Holbrook series, but i renamed them. and he is THE PERFECT MAN! if i had to name just one, it would be him)
Booth (hot. and a nice guy. and funny. and awesome. and yeah, i'm waiting for the season finale to come out... thought it came out yesterday my time (but was wrong) and normally it comes out wednesdays in canada (and hence thursdays in aus) but cus it's the finale, it's coming out the same time in canada as in america... so friday night in aus :( poor little me...)
Patrick Dempsey (i admit, i'm superficial)
The guy from The Terminal (can't remember his name. the main character. Cus he's just so nice!)

Who've I missed off this list?? Add your faves in the comments

A Little Too Late

It has come to my attention that it's been NINE DAYS since I've blogged. And I appologise. Profusely. So please forgive me.

In the mean time, I thought i'd go back to my early blogging roots and write a "how to" on a completely unrealistic, but hopefully amusing topic.

Just a clause: this is being typed on an iPod touch, spelling mistakes are likely to occur. It's still learning my typos. However, I must say i'm impressed by it's learning... Predictive now gives me ohmygoshness when I type in ohm.

How To: Stay Dry In The Rain

it's the end of period 3, you're in a classroom the otherside of the oval and t starts to poor. You're trapped: you have to attend your next class, but you can't get wet - your make up would run, your straight hair would curl, and most importantly your pathetically designed school uniform consisting of a white blouse will go see through. How does one reach the other side?? Watch and learn.

1) Grab a large poster, preferably laminated.
Why laminated, you ask? Laminate, my dear friends, is plastic. Plastic repels water. My friend seriously did this today. Sure it may not stop issues with your make up, hair, or getting water in your shoes but it can stop water from touching your blouse. You may look odd with a wet back and dry front, but at least you won't look like a slut.

2) Jumpers make great hats.
While laminate is great for protecting the hideousnes that is your uniform, unfortunately there's not that many posters to go around, requiring a differet solution to protect your delicate hair. Jumpers, hoodies, blazers and jackets are all great forms of protection which do not require you to hold to keep on your head. While it may be more obviius to simply wear said article of clothing, you need multiple layers of cloth to keep the water at bay. It may not be classy, but your hair will be afterwards.

3) Sprint
Sure, you might slip in a puddle, and Sure, you'll be hot and sweaty (and wet and cold) for your next class... but when all else fails, sprint (making sure to jump in all the puddles along the way)

Coolest Subjects Around

Heya all :)

I was listening to Hamish and Andy this morning, and one of the listeners who rang in was talking about her "natural disasters" class. That she takes in high school. Yup.

Needless to say i was extremely jealous, so i thought i'd come up with a few awesome subjects of my own, to be taught at my chocolate appreciation academy (now taking enrollments for semester 2 2010).

Oreos 101 - here you learn the 5 true ways to enjoy an oreo, discover how they were invented and discuss why they play such an important part in society today. Assessments include a demonstration of a new way to use Oreos in cooking

Literature Appreciation - in this subject students are encouraged to read at least 1 book every term. Books are chosen by the student, without the need for teacher's approval. A 20 minute examination that requiring students to give a brief overview of the book provides the student's mark.

Facebook for Dummies - for those just beginning their facebook journey, this course explains such things as the Wall, Facebook Chat and naming albums. Each student provides a facebook profile to be assessed at the end of the semester.

Have ideas for other awesome subjects? Leave their name and description in the comments :)

Bust out those Blues

Assignments are upon my once again, as it draws ever nearer to exam block and those magical times that are HOLIDAYS! But before I get to hang up my uniform for those two weeks of bliss, there's just the small matter of assessment to keep me up at night. It's only a tiny blip of stress in the scheme of things, granted, and while I know that getting a "B" in a subject won't actually kill me, all teachers are acting like it will. And with this pressure comes some major stress.

Anyway, so i'm overly stressed right now due to varying assignments (darn me and my need to pick nerdy subjects!) and i'm about to share with you the small amount of techniques i have for surviving the study time blues.

1) chocolate - as you may have guessed, this is pretty much my answer to everything. As the saying goes, "chocolate is the answer - who cares about the question?"... thus the motto of my life. But in all seriousness, chocolate actually does release endorphins, and as Legally Blonde taught us, endorphins make you happy (and happy people just don't kill other people).

2) music -
right now i'm listening to a mix of dance music, 21 Guns, Taylor Swift and a piece by Dvorak (and no, i don't expect you to know who he is). Point is, music has the amazing ability to change your mood... so put on some upbeat numbers and bop around a bit while typing up assignments, or fully dance while rereading notes. It has actually been proved that moving while learning forms stronger bonds in your brain, so you may as well make the most of the time to burn off the calories from our first solution ;)

3) scream at something - preferably not a living thing, screaming at inanimate objects is one of the quickest ways to release tension surrounding your school work. Computer not working? No problem, just tell it how much you hate it and how much it will regret crossing you when you replace it. Printer jamming?
Sarcastically inform it of how much you *love* having your assignments chewed up. Best of all, they can't respond so you don't have to think of witty comebacks.

4) write notes up in pretty colours - I don't know about you, but staring at boring black and white pieces of paper just about puts me to sleep. Thus, i have two marvelous little pencil cases, one filled with coloured pens, sharpies, highlighters and my black pen (singular, because you can't write exams in pink unfortunately) and a second filled with crayons, coloured pencils, glitter gel pens and textas. On top of making your work look
more interesting, the use of colours actually helps most people learn.

5) shred a second copy of your assignment - as a reward for finally handing in your draft/essay, print off a second copy and shred. The satisfaction is amazing, trust me. If you're artistic, make a picture of a dinosaur or zombie face to stick on your shredder and make realistic noises so you can feed your assessment to a monster

So that's about it... my coping techniques when life gets too hard for me to deal with. Any other ideas? Post them in the comments :)
